Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is poised to appoint former Test cricketer Azhar Ali to a significant role.

According to a media report, it is anticipated that Azhar will either join the selection committee or take up a position at the high-performance center within the board. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is reportedly keen on leveraging Azhar’s wealth of experience.

Azhar bid farewell to Test cricket in 2022 after his final series against England. Over the years, Azhar accumulated an impressive tally of 34 half-centuries and 19 centuries, amassing 7,097 runs in 96 matches at an average of 42.49. Azhar also served as Pakistan’s captain in nine Tests across two separate stints from 2016 to 2020.

It is worth noting that in another development, former team manager Rehan-ul-Haq is anticipated to reclaim his position. Rehan-ul-Haq had previously served as team manager during Najam Sethi’s tenure as PCB Chairman.
