KARACHI – A man traveling through Airport in Pakistan’s largest city Karachi gotthe  shock of his life when he was robbed of $850,000 (around Rs24 Crore) in cryptocurrency.

The startling case of cryptocurrency theft rocked Karachi, where the man claims he was robbed of $850,000 while traveling through Karachi Airport. Malir District and Sessions Court has now ordered formal inquiry into the incident, amid growing concerns about digital financial security and airport safety.

The petitioner said the incident occurred last month in September, while he was going to Peshawar. He alleges that two men in plain clothes stopped him, took him to a separate room, confiscated his mobile phone, and transferred $850,000 from his cryptocurrency account.

He further said authorities initially failed to file First Information Report (FIR) after the robbery. After complaint, the Malir court directed SSP Malir to carry out a thorough investigation under the supervision of an officer of DSP rank.

During court proceedings, police submitted a report and USB evidence for review. The complainant also urged authorities to ensure his protection and transparency throughout the investigation, claiming he was targeted by organized criminals.

Those familiar with develoment said such daring theft shows how financial crimes are evolving, as physical robberies are increasingly merging with digital fraud.

It also raised serious questions about airport security protocols and protection of digital assets in the South Asian nation. Experts are urging enhanced cyber awareness among travelers and improved digital forensics capabilities within law enforcement agencies, especially as incidents of crypto theft and hacking continue to rise.
