QUETTA – Chaos erupted today on Pakistan–Afghanistan frontier as Taliban militants opened gunfire on unarmed civilians, triggering a fierce and fiery response from Pakistani security forces, it emerged late Friday.
The sound of heavy artillery echoed across restive border as Pakistani troops responded with deadly accuracy, and there are reports of casualties of Taliban.
Local residents termed scenes of panic and terror as chaos erupting with bullets and shells tore through border region. The air was thick with dust, fear and the roar of weapons fire as the conflict escalated to a deadly high-stakes confrontation.
Initial intelligence confirms that the Afghan Taliban suffered several losses, as their assault backfired spectacularly under Pakistan’s massive firepower. As the smoke clears, the border region stands on the edge, ready to plunge deeper into violence if the militants dare to strike again.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office said ceasefire understanding with Afghanistan, meant to stop TTP and Afghan-based militants from attacking inside Pakistan, is not being honored.
Despite agreement negotiated in Doha and reinforced in Istanbul, Pakistan has recorded around 20 terrorism incidents linked to Afghan territory in recent weeks, including attacks in Islamabad and Peshawar.
Security forces increased vigilance along the border, and tensions between the two countries are rising. Pakistan has urged stronger regional cooperation to counter the growing cross-border terrorism threat.
