ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has condemned the reported targeting of the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Such a heinous act constitutes a grave threat to peace, security, and stability, particularly at a time when efforts aimed at peace are underway,” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in a social media post on X.
Pakistan expresses its solidarity with the President of the Russian Federation, and with the government and people of Russia, he said.
“We reiterate our firm rejection of all forms of violence and acts intended to undermine security and threaten peace,” the premier concluded.
Earlier, Russia accused Ukraine of attempting an attack on President Vladimir Putin’s official residence in the Novo-Ogaryovo region. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that Ukraine launched 91 long-range drones on the night of December 28-29, targeting Putin’s residence. However, he stated that Russia’s air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed all the drones.
Lavrov condemned the attack, calling it an act of state terrorism, and warned that such reckless actions would not go unanswered.
In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the accusations as baseless, asserting that such claims were meant to harm peace negotiations between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States. Zelensky suggested that the allegations could be an attempt to justify future attacks on Ukrainian government buildings in Kyiv.
News agencies reported that Zelensky also urged President Trump to respond to Russia’s threats. The situation has added further tension to the ongoing conflict between the two countries, with both sides continuing to dispute the events.
