Pak Telecom Companies Fined Rs6 89 Crore For Poor Services

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) continues its crackdown on telecom companies over poor service amid massive disruption in mobile and internet connectivity.

Over past five years, telecom operators have been slapped with fines totaling Rs6.89 crore for providing substandard services. A recent PTA document exposes staggering scale of network issues, with 9,000 mobile sites nationwide struggling with availability problems.

Extended power outages, right-of-way challenges, limited access to commercial electricity, and incidents of theft and sabotage have severely affected network performance. The quality of service in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan has dropped to alarming levels, raising serious concerns among users.

Despite operators’ claims of efficiency, the document confirms that network availability still falls short of license standards. In the first six months of the year, PTA received over 8,000 service-related complaints, successfully resolving 99.17% of them.

The battle is far from over, as 11 cases related to PTA fines are still pending in courts, keeping the spotlight on telecom companies’ accountability.
