Pakistan and Sri Lanka will play the entire T20I series in Rawalpindi, beginning with the first match on Friday, October 9. The second game is scheduled for October 11, followed by the series finale on October 13. The timing gives the Rawalpindi crowd three opportunities to watch international cricket as Pakistan begins a packed stretch of home assignments.
The T20I series will also be the first major assignment for Sahibzada Farhan as Pakistan’s new T20I captain. The PCB named Farhan skipper on October 5, while Shaheen Shah Afridi will lead Pakistan in the subsequent ODI tri-series.
Pakistan’s schedule will remain busy after the Sri Lanka T20Is. England will join Pakistan and Sri Lanka for a seven-match ODI tri-series from October 18 to 31. Rawalpindi will host the first three matches before the tournament moves to Lahore for the remaining league fixtures and the final.
The ODI tournament will begin with Pakistan facing Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi on October 18. Pakistan will then meet England on October 20, followed by Sri Lanka’s clash with England on October 22.
The action will shift to Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, for the remaining matches, with Pakistan taking on England on October 25, Pakistan facing Sri Lanka on October 27, and Sri Lanka meeting England on October 29. The top two sides will contest the final on October 31.
Tickets for the ODI tri-series are scheduled to go on sale online from October 10, while physical tickets will become available from October 14.
The upcoming series marks Sri Lanka’s return to Pakistan for a bilateral short-format assignment after several years. The sides last played a bilateral T20I series in Pakistan in 2019, when all three matches were staged at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. Sri Lanka dominated that contest, completing a 3-0 clean sweep. Pakistan will now have the opportunity to improve on that record when the teams meet in Rawalpindi.
Pakistan also enter the contest with the stronger overall T20I record against Sri Lanka. The teams have met 31 times in T20I cricket, with Pakistan winning 18 matches and Sri Lanka securing 13 victories.
