LAHORE—The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) sealed 43 illegal commercial buildings and commercialisation fee defaulter premises in LDA-controlled areas and different housing schemes on Thursday.
LDA’s Town Planning Wing sealed 19 buildings in Gulberg and Faisal Town, and 24 on Raiwind Road during operations against illegal commercial use and nonpayment of commercialisation fees.
The sealed premises include Occasions, Lals Chocolates, Tobacco Corner, M Saleem Jewellers, Qasim Jewellers, an electric store, a meat shop, tyre shops, grocery stores, food outlets, workshops, offices, and other businesses.
The LDA teams also cleared temporary/permanent encroachment and constructions beyond the actual building line during a grand operation on Gulberg’s M M Alam Road. LDA Town Planning Zone III teams also removed sheds, partition walls and illegal billboards during the operation in the area.
LDA Chief Town Planner I, Assad-uz-Zaman, and Chief Town Planner II, Azhar Ali, supervised the operations carried out by the enforcement teams with the assistance of the Police and heavy machinery.
According to the LDA officials, several notices were served on the owners of these buildings before carrying out the operations.
LDA Director General Tahir Farooq has directed continuing indiscriminate operations against violations of bylaws, illegal signboards, temporary/permanent encroachments, illegal commercial buildings, and non-payment of commercialisation fees in housing schemes and LDA-controlled areas. He also directed taking appropriate measures to check the reemergence of encroachments after the operations.
