ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the distribution of aid under the upcoming Ramzan package will be carried out through digital wallets, a move aimed at ensuring the dignity of recipients while also advancing the country’s progress towards a cashless economy.
During a meeting in Islamabad to review the Ramadan package, the prime minister instructed all relevant ministries to develop a more effective and beneficial aid plan for the upcoming Ramzan, surpassing the success of last year’s efforts. He reiterated that financial support for the less privileged remains a top priority of the government.
The premier also emphasized the importance of maximizing the coverage and inclusion of deserving beneficiaries in the distribution process, while ensuring transparency through a digital monitoring system and dashboard. This initiative will allow for real-time oversight of the program’s effectiveness.
Shehbaz Sharif commended the transparent execution of last year’s Ramzan package, which was positively reviewed by a reputable auditing firm. He stressed that the system of utility stores, long plagued by financial irregularities, had been overhauled to provide subsidized food items to the public in a more transparent and efficient manner.
BISP Payment Update 2026
The government is also introducing a new initiative under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), which will distribute subsidy amounts through digital SIM cards provided to eligible individuals starting in March 2026. This effort is part of a broader strategy to promote a cashless economy and improve the social welfare system.
The meeting also revealed that third-party validation of last year’s Raman package found no evidence of financial corruption or significant administrative issues.
