ISLAMABAD – Elections for 11 Senate seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa saw ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) reasserting as dominant party, securing multiple victories. Murad Saeed, Faisal Javed, and Noorul Haq Qadri were elected on general seats, receiving 26, 22, and 21 votes respectively.

PTI’s Azam Swati won the technocrat seat with a commanding 89 votes. In another notable result, Niaz Ahmed clinched a general seat, marking a rare win for the opposition in the PTI-dominated provincial assembly.

Other winners include PTI’s Mirza Afridi, who received 21 votes, and PPP’s Talha Mahmood, who secured his seat with 17 votes. On women’s reserved seats, PTI’s Rubina Naz was elected with 89 votes, while PPP’s Rubina Khalid succeeded with 52 votes.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) also gained representation, with Dilawar Khan winning a seat after obtaining 54 votes. A total of 25 candidates were in the running for the 11 Senate seats in KP.

Reacting to the results, Leader of the Opposition in the KP Assembly, Dr. Ibadullah, congratulated all successful candidates and coalition allies. He emphasized the need to ensure transparency in the electoral process and prevent any attempts at horse trading in future Senate elections. He also expressed hope that the newly elected senators would serve as strong advocates for the province’s rights and interests at the national level.

The Senate elections in KP are seen as a key indicator of party strength in the province and a prelude to the shifting political landscape ahead of the next general elections.
