LAHORE – The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has decided to intensify action against individuals and businesses involved in tax return manipulation and tax evasion as modern data analysis will be used to scrutinize financial activities and tax declarations.
The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting chaired by PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra. The meeting reviewed revenue collections by regional offices against their assigned targets.
Under the new approach, taxpayers’ financial activities and the accuracy of their tax declarations will be assessed through modern technical tools and data analysis. The measure is aimed at identifying discrepancies and ensuring the collection of the correct amount of tax.
The PRA chairman directed officials to strengthen monitoring mechanisms to improve the rate of tax return filing.
He also ordered faster enforcement action against non-compliant sectors as part of efforts to broaden the province’s tax base.
During the meeting, sectors and business areas that were failing to generate their expected revenue were identified, with officials directed to accelerate tax reforms in those areas.
Moazzam Iqbal Sipra said a zero-tolerance policy would be adopted to improve transparency and accuracy in the tax system. He also directed all regional offices to ensure achievement of their assigned revenue targets.
