Lahore Traffic Police on Sunday launched a citywide crackdown against underage drivers, people driving without valid licenses and motorcyclists involved in triple riding.
Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said strict measures would be taken against those violating traffic laws. Underage drivers will face challans, while their vehicles or motorcycles will also be impounded.
He said motorcycles seized from underage riders would only be released after a juvenile permit is produced.
According to the CTO, children frequently take motorcycles, cars or rickshaws from their homes and drive them on public roads during holidays, increasing the likelihood of accidents. He said action against triple riding was also necessary to improve road safety.
Shirazi clarified that a learner’s permit does not authorize a person to drive a vehicle independently.
People caught driving cars without a valid license will be fined Rs5,000, while unlicensed motorcyclists will face a Rs2,000 penalty, in addition to possible vehicle impoundment.
The traffic police will also set up special checkpoints outside driving license offices, where motorcyclists will be assisted in obtaining their licenses.
The CTO directed circle officers to personally supervise the enforcement drive and ensure effective action against violations, emphasizing that underage driving and driving without a valid license would not be tolerated.
