Blanketed by fog, Lahore experienced the coldest day of this winter season as the temperature dropped to 03°C on Sunday.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. A shallow westerly wave is expected to approach the western and upper parts of the country tonight, which will likely persist till Monday.
Under these conditions, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in Lahore and most districts of Punjab on Sunday evening and night, as well as on Monday and Tuesday. Partly cloudy and icy weather is expected in Murree, Galyat and upper districts.
Moderate to dense fog will likely persist over Sialkot, Narowal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Kasur, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Layyah, Bhakkar, Noorpur Thal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Shorkot, Multan, Kot Addu, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan.
Lahore’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 03°C and 05°C on Monday and Tuesday.
Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in Lahore and most districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. Freezing weather prevailed in Murree, Galyat and upper districts. Moderate to dense fog persisted in Lahore and the plains of Punjab.
Murree remained the coldest place in the province, where the temperature dropped 02°C below the freezing point (-02°C). Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 70 per cent.
The minimum temperature in Chakwal was recorded at 0°C, in Sahiwal, Faisalabad and Attock at 01°C, and in Jhelum, Sargodha and Bahawalpur at 02°C.
In Lahore, the minimum temperature was recorded at 03°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 92 per cent.
