The cricket team of University of Karachi (KU) has won HEC Intervarsity Zone “G” Cricket Tournament by beating Hamdard University by four wickets in the final yesterday at Madinat-al Hikmah sports ground. The tournament was organized by Hamdard University as per Higher Education Commission’s annual sporting calendar 2020-21.
While batting first, Hamdard University managed to put up 136 runs total in its 20 overs. University of Karachi successfully chased the target in the 19th over with the loss of six wickets. 12 university teams participated in the event including Iqra University, Ilma University, SZABIST, PAF-KIET, IoBM, SSUET, NED, University of Karachi, Hamdard University, SBB Dewan University, PIMSAT and IBA.
Opening match of the tournament was played between Hamdard University and IoBM on Friday. Semi Finals were also played on the same day. In the first semi finalHamdard University defeated NED and in second semi final KU secured final playoff by comprehensively beating Iqra University.
Prof. Dr. Khalid Mehmood Iraqi Vice Chancellor University of Karachi – was invited as a chief guest for the final concluding ceremony. Vice Chancellors of different universities including Prof. Dr. Aurangzaib Khan Vice Chancellor Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Deewan University, Prof. Dr. Waseem A Qazi, Vice Chancellor Iqra University, as well as faculty members of Hamdard University and large number of students watched the final and supported their teams.—PR
