LAHORE – A student at King Edward Medical University allegedly attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills, hospital officials confirmed Wednesday.

The student was rushed to Mayo Hospital in critical condition, where doctors placed her on a ventilator in an effort to save her life. The student resides in a hostel room located in the basement of the university premises.

A spokesperson for King Edward Medical University confirmed that the student’s condition is now out of danger as she received immediate medical attention, and a team of doctors continues to monitor her health closely.

The medical university said that the student is being provided with both medical and psychological support to aid her recovery.

The development comes after first-year pharmacy student at University of Lahore was seriously injured after jumping from the second floor. She sustained leg fractures, chest injuries, and a minor head injury and was hospitalized.
