Nominated Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa said Wednesday that responsible journalism was a need of the hour.
While addressing an event of the Supreme Court Press Association in Islamabad, he said that freedom of expression was the fundamental right of every citizen.

“Access to information is the right of every citizen. The main job of the media is to convey correct information to the public,” he remarked.

“Positive journalism leaves a good impact on the society. Journalists and judges are always in search of the truth,” he added.

“The difference between news and opinion should be kept in mind. A judge works within the framework of the Constitution and law. Whenever a journalist talks about a matter, he must clarify whether he is telling the news or giving his opinion,” he emphasised.

“There is not much difference between the job of judges and journalists. The truth remains the truth. [However] every man can have his own opinion on justice,” he added. “The truth always has a positive outcome. The truth has been given a priority in all religions,” he pointed out.
