Former President of Pakistan and President Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians, Asif Ali Zardari, in his message on 5 July, has said that this day is the darkest in the political history of Pakistan.

He said that a power-hungry coterie took away the Constitution from the nation on this very day. The undemocratic entities trampled the freedom, sovereignty and independence of the country on July 5, 1977.

Zardari said that Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto built a dignified and nuclear Pakistan. Under the leadership of Quaid-e-Awam, Pakistan was achieving goals for development at a fast pace. On July 5, 1977, Pakistan was plunged into darkness. He said that Pakistan is still suffering from the consequences of the unconstitutional action of July 5, 1977. The society was destroyed by opening nurseries of linguistic and communal prejudices in the country. Waziristan, a heaven like piece of land on earth, was inhabited by extremists. Asif Ali Zardari said that the Pakistan People’s Party firmly believes in its determination to make Pakistan a free, independent and dignified country once again.

Asif Ali Zardari paid rich tributes to those who sacrificed their lives for the restoration of the 1973 Constitution and democracy. “Red salute to those who endured executions, floggings, imprisonment and torture for the restoration of democracy”, President Zardari said in his message.
