Islamabad Weather: Rain, Hailstorms Forecast Through Wednesday

Intermittent rain, strong winds, isolated heavy showers and hailstorms are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and several parts of the country on Tuesday night and Wednesday, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The PMD said a westerly wave is influencing the upper parts of the country and is expected to persist until October 7.

Under its influence, rain-wind/thunderstorms are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, the Potohar region, northeastern Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during Tuesday night and Wednesday. Most other areas are likely to experience dry weather.

The weather department warned that hailstorms and lightning could damage weak structures, including roofs and walls of mud houses, electric poles, billboards and solar panels.

Daytime temperatures in Islamabad are forecast to range between 32°C and 34°C on Wednesday and Thursday, while Rawalpindi is expected to record temperatures between 31°C and 33°C.

During the last 24 hours, most parts of the country remained dry, while isolated rain-wind/thunderstorms were reported in the Potohar region and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Some areas also received isolated hailstorms and heavy rain.

The highest rainfall was recorded in Peshawar city at 38mm, followed by Attock with 31mm and Cherat with 17mm. Other rainfall recorded included Peshawar Airport 5mm, Malam Jabba 10mm, Takht Bai 10mm, Lower Dir 5mm, Upper Dir 4mm, Kalam 4mm, Drosh 2mm, and 1mm each in Balakot, Chitral and Saidu Sharif. In Gilgit-Baltistan, Bunji received 2mm and Gilgit 1mm, while Murree recorded 6mm.

Islamabad recorded a maximum temperature of 34°C, with evening humidity at 92%, while Rawalpindi reached 33°C with humidity at 84%.
