Islamabad has launched its first-ever dedicated security application, “Mahfooz Muharram,” to strengthen law and order arrangements during Muharram-ul-Haram, officials said.
The special digital initiative has been introduced for the first time in the federal capital’s history to ensure foolproof security during religious gatherings, processions, and majalis.
Authorities said that geo-tagging of all imam bargahs, majalis venues, and procession routes has been completed, while drone-based digital surveillance has also been activated across the city.
The decisions were taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, which reviewed comprehensive security arrangements for Muharram.
Officials briefed the meeting that the “Mahfooz Muharram” app will allow citizens to report suspicious individuals, activities, or incomplete security arrangements directly to authorities. The application will also include features for sharing live location and images.
A four-layer security plan has also been put in place for gatherings and processions to ensure enhanced protection.
The interior minister directed authorities to activate the central control room at Safe City Islamabad and strictly implement a comprehensive traffic management plan during Muharram.
He also instructed that all entry and exit points of processions and gatherings be strictly monitored, and that senior officers remain present in the field during duty hours.
Mohsin Naqvi emphasized close coordination with religious scholars and the strict enforcement of the code of conduct. He warned that a zero-tolerance policy will be adopted against those spreading inflammatory content.
Officials informed the meeting that all processions and gatherings have undergone security audits, while peace and monitoring committees have also been activated.
The meeting was attended by senior police and administration officials, including DIGs, SSPs, the Deputy Commissioner, and Assistant Commissioners.
