Iran has placed 45 oil and gas tankers on a restricted list for allegedly violating its regulations while navigating the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has warned that vessels conducting cargo transfers with the blacklisted ships could also face punitive measures.
The Persian Gulf Strait Authority, a recently established Iranian body overseeing the Strait of Hormuz, said in a post on X that the listed vessels could be subjected to fines, detention and cargo confiscation.
The announcement came just days after the United States threatened to impose what it described as the “toughest sanctions in history” on Iran. Tehran has responded by warning that any new US pressure would trigger a “devastating” retaliation.
The restricted vessels include very large crude carriers, liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers and ships transporting refined petroleum products.
