Pakistan’s diplomatic push to ease the escalating tensions between Iran and the United States gained fresh momentum as Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is in Tehran. The top general met Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf during his visit to Tehran.
The high-level meeting focused on the rapidly evolving regional situation, efforts to maintain peace and stability, and the ongoing Iran-US confrontation, according to Iranian media reports. During meeting, Field Marshal Asim Munir reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to continuing its efforts for regional peace and stability. He also highlighted Pakistan’s previous role in facilitating dialogue and reconciliation between Tehran and Washington.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, meanwhile, stressed that Tehran remains committed to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and called on Washington to fulfill its obligations.
Ghalibaf accused Washington of repeatedly failing to implement commitments linked to the understanding, emphasizing that progress in the reconciliation process would require both sides to honor their promises and responsibilities.
The remarks come as diplomatic efforts surrounding the Iran-US conflict remain under intense scrutiny, with Pakistan positioning itself as a potential bridge between the two sides.
Under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, Pakistan has played a facilitating role in efforts to advance the Iran-US peace process. The diplomatic initiative also saw high-level talks in June in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, hosted by Pakistan and Qatar, focusing on implementation of the memorandum.
