KARACHI – The investigators probing the death of young businessman Mir Raza are focusing on a 200-metre “grey area” where the crucial details surrounding his final moments remained unclear.
The investigation is continuing as authorities seek to determine whether the location where Raza’s body was found was the primary crime scene or whether he was killed elsewhere and his body was later dumped at the site.
The investigators are examining what happened within the 200-metre area between the last time Raza was captured on CCTV and the discovery of his body. They are trying to establish whether he suffered an accident at the location, was abducted and taken elsewhere, or was killed at another place before his body was brought back and abandoned there.
A major challenge for the investigation is the discrepancy between the two post-mortem examinations regarding the estimated time of death.
According to the first post-mortem report, Mir Raza is believed to have died between 24 and 36 hours before his body was recovered. The second examination, however, estimated the time of death at around 20 to 22 hours before the body was found.
Mir Raza’s body was recovered at around noon. Based on the estimated time in the second post-mortem report, his death may have occurred at around 10am the previous day.
The investigators are therefore trying to determine where Mir Raza was between approximately 5am and 10am and what happened to him during those five hours. They are also examining whether he was abducted during this period and whether his body was later dumped at the recovery site.
The investigation team is also seeking clarity about the cause of death. Officials said the post-mortem reports have not conclusively established whether Raza died as a result of physical assault or a gunshot wound.
The head of the investigation team said authorities were considering releasing CCTV footage showing Mir Raza’s final moments.
The investigators said the CCTV footage covering the crucial 200-metre area is currently unavailable. Mir Raza’s mobile phone is also locked, and authorities have contacted the relevant company for assistance in accessing its data.
Meanwhile, the data obtained through geofencing is being analysed as investigators work to reconstruct Mir Raza’s movements and determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
