After their dismal failure to curb the menace of street crime in the city, the police seem to have resorted to staging encounters to show performance as the authenticity of an encounter with criminals claimed by the police on July 27 has become dubious due to its video going viral.

Earlier, the Shah Faisal Colony SHO had claimed that police had signalled two suspects riding a motorcycle to stop but instead of stopping, the suspects opened fire on the police party.

This prompted the police to fire at the suspects, as a result of which both of them were injured. The police had also claimed that they found arms on the injured persons. However, the family of the injured teenagers, 16-year-old Noor Muhammad and 14-year-old Faheem, who were brothers, has claimed that they were young students who got an A grade in the matriculation and were not involved in any crime.

According to the family, no encounter had taken place between the police and the teenagers and the cops first caught them and then took them to a nearby graveyard where they were shot in their legs and arms were foisted on them.

The investigation officer of the case told the family that the children were innocent and had no criminal record. The family said that even in the footage of the incident, the children could be seen being caught and tied up by the police.

Police high-ups have taken notice of the case and the Landhi SP has been tasked with ascertaining the reality of the encounter.
