LAHORE – Indian national Sarabjit Kaur, also known as Noor Fatima, has been declared medically fit following a health examination conducted at Darul Aman in Lahore.
Progress has emerged in the case pertaining to a petition filed in the Lahore High Court regarding her deportation.
According to the officials, the Ministry of Interior has yet to issue a special permission or exit permit allowing Sarabjit Kaur to be sent to India on foot via the Wagah border.
As a result, her repatriation scheduled for January 5, 2026, could not take place.
The petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Ali Changezi Sindhu, stated that under the law, repatriation to India through the Wagah border is possible in certain cases through a special travel permit, which often serves as an alternative to visa extension issues.
However, no such permission has been granted in this case so far.
Due to the non-issuance of the special travel permit, Sarabjit Kaur was shifted to Darul Aman. Advocate Sindhu said the Punjab Home Department, on the request of the Evacuee Trust Property Board and the Ministry of Religious Affairs, transferred her to Darul Aman Lahore, clarifying that she would remain there under strict police security until travel authorization is received from the Ministry of Interior.
He further said that on January 9, 2026, a special medical team conducted a thorough examination of Sarabjit Kaur at Darul Aman and declared her health satisfactory. The lawyer expressed hope that once the travel permit is issued, Sarabjit Kaur would be sent to India next week, while dismissing reports about her seeking asylum as baseless.
Officials maintained that the matter is subject to approval by the Ministry of Interior and that repatriation would be carried out through the Wagah border immediately after the issuance of permission.
It may be recalled that 48-year-old Sarabjit Kaur arrived in Pakistan on November 4, 2025, with Indian pilgrims to celebrate the birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak.
During her stay, she embraced Islam on November 5, 2025, married a local resident, Nasir Hussain, and adopted the name Noor Fatima.
Her disappearance came to light on November 13 when the Indian pilgrims returned to their country.
Her visa expired on November 14, 2025. Sarabjit Kaur and her husband Nasir Hussain were later arrested by police from the Nankana Sahib area.
