Dr. Akif Khan

Automation is the creation and application of technologies to produce and deliver goods and services with minimal human intervention followed by layers of innovation. The implementation of automation technologies, techniques and processes improves the efficiency, reliability, and/or speed of many tasks that were previously performed by humans. In Pakistan and particularly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, automation is being used in several areas such as manufacturing, transport, utilities, defence, facilities, operations and lately, information technology.

Director Performance Management and Reforms Unit, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Capt. Rtd Abdur Rehman has been keenly introducing reforms in the government processes through innovation and e-governance that ultimately improve public service delivery and develop tools for performance management of all tiers of the government.

He has spearheaded several key reforms and e-governance initiatives such as those that have been implemented across the province by all departments and district administrations. One of such reforms is recently showcased by him which has accelerated working for the long-term sustainability of reforms, constant re-enforcement and rigorous follow-ups.E Summary has been ensuring precision in reforms and durability of performance management tools that are fully embodied in the government structure in the same manner.

Dr Akif Khan, Deputy Director of e-governance at PMRU, on behalf of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government is enthusiastically dealing with all the challenges to make the government offices become paperless.

Dr Akif Khan proudly introduced e-Summary 2.0, a digital summary automation system which will be responsible for digitally generating, processing and approving/reviewing official summaries and notes. Dr Akif, while briefing Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, mentioned that the Summary Automation System will ensure the effective and timely disposal of summaries and notes. He affirmed that the “e Summary 2.0” will minimize the chances of delayed and lost summaries and subsequent notifications.

The Summary Automation system can track the complete record of summaries and is a remarkable revolution in the course of operations undertaken by the government. Dr Akif Khan proudly announced that the officials using the Summary Automation System can digitally sign/approve summaries on the go. He said that the system not only offers features such as QR Code Enabled Summary and Note Management, and Para Management but also provides Summary/Note Highlights with Video/Audio, as well as caters to offering a Digital Signature (two-factor authentication) which is the most demanded security feature.

The e Summary is print-friendly and has a Centralized Dashboard Integration. Dr Akif said that e Summary is one step ahead compared to the previous digital systems as it is being offered in the form of the e Gov 2.0 Mobile App which will accelerate the pace of operations in the government machinery.

The app supports possession of a dedicated mobile/tablet app for composing, forwarding and disposal of summaries, followed by regular Alerts, Notifications and Summary Timelines.
