KARACHI – The immigration system at Jinnah International Airport experienced a technical outage during a visit by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday, who inspected the immigration process at the airport.
Naqvi visited the immigration counters and reviewed the processing of passengers travelling abroad. He also interacted with departing passengers and inquired about their experience with the immigration process.
During the minister’s visit, the immigration system went down. Naqvi immediately contacted the relevant authorities by telephone and directed them to resolve the technical issue without delay.
The interior minister instructed officials to ensure that alternative arrangements are available in case of a system failure.
“Immigration processing should not stop under any circumstances,” Naqvi said.
He also ordered strict action against passengers attempting to travel using forged documents.
Naqvi further directed that passengers carrying incomplete or unverified documents should not be allowed to travel.
A day earlier, Naqvi visited the FIA Zonal Office in Lahore, where he chaired a special meeting and reviewed the ongoing upgradation project.
Naqvi directed officials to complete the project at the earliest and ordered FIA officers to take firm action against mafias involved in human trafficking and hawala-hundi.
He directed authorities to bring the entire networks involved in human trafficking and hawala-hundi under the ambit of law.
A decision was also taken to replace old cameras installed at immigration counters at airports across the country. In addition, the principle of using the Pak ID app for registering complaints was approved.
Later, Naqvi visited the 24/7 Mega NADRA Centre in Gujranwala and announced that passport office facilities would also be provided at the centre.
Citizens expressed satisfaction with the facilities available at the NADRA Mega Centre.
The interior minister directed officials to properly guide citizens and provide them with all necessary information.
