IG promotes public-friendly policing

Punjab Inspector General of Police Shoaib Dastgir said that it is mandatory for police force to enhance cooperation, relationship of trust and information sharing with public so that the process of elimination of criminals may be beefed up.
These views were expressed by him while addressing to police officers and media at Rawalpindi. He said that police force should also ensure immediate resolution of issues of the citizens with their high moral values, professional skills and full fledge actions so that the citizens may be helpful to police for supremacy of law by securing the cooperation and trust of public. He moreover said that this was also an admitted fact that the crimes cannot take roots in those societies where police have full trust and cooperation of public therefore, all officers and officials should make their places in the hearts of citizens by their zeal of public service, commitment and diligence so that peaceful environment may be promoted in the society by reducing the distance between police and public.
He further said that it was my target and mission to restore and win the prestige of police force and public trust by the help of public-friendly policing and in this regard, all police force will have to take side with me by showing best performance. He further said that it was among my top priority to eradicate criminals from society and improve public service delivery and in this regard police force should adopt courteous behavior in public dealing and also make it familiar with advance practices in investigation and operational duties based on skills of modern policing so that they may ensure protection of wealth and lives of people by fulfilling their duties.
He further said that police provided security to public on religious and national rituals without caring the hardships of weather and happiness of their own families, whereas nearly 1500 police officers and officials have laid their lives in the line of the duty even then the image of police in public was not good which was a matter of great concern.
He further said that we should be accountable to ourselves because if we correctly do self accountability then there was no need of our accountability by another person. He said that the motive of special initiatives Police Stations, Front Desk, Police Khidmat Marakiz and other modern projects was to promote public-friendly policing but if the officers did not adopt the courtesy and high moral values in their behavior then these projects will go wasted.
He further directed officers to adopt open door policy to resolve the issues of citizens and promote sense of protection in the society by equal implementation of law, observation of merit and full fledge actions.
He further said that special attention should be paid on inspection, punishment and reward processes of the force so that performance of the force may be enhanced. He also said that good performers during the duty should be encouraged whereas there should be no delay in taking action within discipline matrix against those who trespass their powers, do corruption and show non professional behavior.
He said that intelligence-based operations should be boosted up for elimination of criminals and anti-social elements in all districts across the province whereas DPOs should take strict actions against drug dealers, land mafias and extortionists under their supervision.
On this occasion RPO Rawalpindi Sohail Habib Tajak, CPO Rawalpindi Ahsan Younas, DPO Attock Khalid Mehmud Hamdani, DPO Jehlum captain retired Hammad Abid, DPO Chakwal Adil Memon along with SSP investigation, CTOs, ASPs and SDPOs, SHOs were present.
