KARACHI – Pakistan’s hybrid car market has suddenly become a lot more interesting. As the government cuts sales tax, Hyundai is slashing prices on popular Elantra and Tucson hybrids, while Jaecoo’s J7 is also getting cheaper, offering buyers savings of up to Rs14 lakh.
Pakistan’s hybrid car market is seeing a major shake-up after the government lowered the sales tax on locally manufactured Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) from 25% to 18%. The tax change has already started showing up in showroom prices, although not every automaker has passed on the impact in the same way.
Hyundai has announced sizeable price cuts across five hybrid models, with savings reaching as high as Rs1.403 million. Nishat’s Jaecoo, meanwhile, has taken a mixed approach: the Jaecoo J7 Premium is now Rs500,000 cheaper, while both versions of the Jaecoo J5 HEV have become Rs300,000 more expensive.

The latest changes follow the expiry of an earlier tax concession for hybrid vehicles on June 30, 2026. Under that arrangement, certain hybrids, including HEVs and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), were taxed at concessional rates of 8.5% or 12.75% for vehicles above 1,800cc. The concessions were not extended after their expiry.
Jaecoo J7 New Price
NexGen Auto (Pvt.) Limited has revised the prices of its Jaecoo and Omoda models following the government’s latest tax decision. For buyers considering the Jaecoo J7 Premium, the news is positive. Its ex-factory price has fallen by Rs500,000, from Rs10.499 million to Rs9.999 million.
The new price took effect on September 14, 2026. The picture is quite different for the J5 HEV. J5 HEV Comfort will cost Rs6.999 million, up from Rs6.699 million. The J5 HEV Premium will also rise by Rs300,000, moving from Rs7.699 million to Rs7.999 million. Omoda 7 Premium has been left unchanged at Rs10.649 million.
So, while the J7 has become more affordable, buyers looking at the J5 hybrid will soon have to stretch their budgets further.
For existing J5 customers, the timing of their payment is particularly important. Anyone who has already paid the full amount will not be affected by the latest increase. NexGen Auto will invoice the vehicle at the price that was applicable when the complete payment was received.
Hyundai Price Update
While Jaecoo’s latest revision is a mixed bag, Hyundai has gone ahead with substantial price cuts across its hybrid range. Five models have received reductions, and the savings become particularly significant in the Santa Fe lineup. Elantra Hybrid has dropped from Rs11.400 million to Rs10.761 million, giving buyers a saving of Rs639,000.
Tucson Hybrid Smart is now priced at Rs12.202 million, compared with Rs12.926 million previously. That means a reduction of Rs724,000. Santa Fe Smart has been reduced by Rs1.316 million, with its price falling from Rs14.574 million to Rs13.258 million.
The biggest saving is reserved for the Santa Fe Signature. Its price has been slashed by Rs1.403 million, dropping from Rs16.123 million to Rs14.720 million.
