Heres Why I Will Watch Neelofar The Film And So Should You

Lahore has always had a way of romanticising even the simplest of moments and it seemed to do the same last Saturday evening at the Sir Ganga Ram House, where Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan came together to unveil a song from their much-anticipated film Neelofar.

It almost felt as though the evening itself was conspiring in favour of the duo; the weather, the city, and the venue all in quiet synergy. Together, they reminded me, and certainly those seated around me, what Pakistani cinema can feel like when done right (though I’ll admit, we only got a glimpse of what the film might eventually look like).

I must also confess — this was the first time I’d seen Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan together in person. And everything I had ever heard about their chemistry not only held true but far exceeded expectations. More on that another time — for now, back to the evening of the song release.

The event was intimate and heartfelt, where a small circle of musicians, artists, and filmmakers gathered to experience the unveiling of a song that, quite frankly, took everyone back to a time of good, good love stories. Sung by Vicky Haider, the song was soft, poetic, and vulnerable and while I don’t claim to know music well enough to analyse it, those three words felt about right.

In their tender yet sincere way, both Fawad and Mahira shared how nervous they were ahead of the film’s release, describing Neelofar as a project close to their hearts — almost like a child that has grown with them. They spoke of Lahore with affection, dedicating the film to the city’s beauty, generosity, and unmatched hospitality.

As the visuals of the song played, it felt like being transported into another time — as someone from the first row (out of my line of sight) rightly remarked. In a cinematic age dominated by noise, Neelofar promises quiet. It promises feeling. It promises soul.

And maybe that’s exactly why I will watch Neelofar — and so should you.
