ISLAMABAD – Germany reaffirmed its strong and multifaceted partnership with Pakistan, Ambassador Ina Lepel confirmed wide spectrum of ongoing ties between Islamabad and Berlin.
The envoy sheds light on the development speaking to Pakistan state run agency APP, saying Pakistan and Germany share “a large and diverse portfolio” of bilateral engagement, including economic collaboration, trade, cultural exchanges, development projects, investment, academic ties, hydroelectric initiatives, and strengthened people-to-people links.
Ambassador Lepel revealed that during recent government-to-government negotiations, Germany pledged a new financial commitment of €144 million to support various development and cooperation programmes in Pakistan. She also noted a substantial rise in the number of Pakistani students opting for higher education in Germany.
The envoy stressed importance of longstanding climate and energy partnership, designed to bolster Pakistan’s resilience to climate change, enhance disaster preparedness, and advance the country’s transition toward green and renewable energy sources.
Addressing students, she advised against using private agents and encouraged them to rely on the official education portal, “Just Study in Germany,” for verified information on academic opportunities and admission procedures.
Lepel praised Pakistan’s cultural richness and tourism potential, urging authorities to enhance infrastructure to make the country’s scenic destinations more accessible to German tourists. She noted that German mountaineers have successfully climbed some of Pakistan’s highest peaks, reflecting growing interest in adventure tourism.
Highlighting Germany’s role in education and vocational training in Pakistan, the ambassador added that Germany has opened its labor market to skilled professionals from developing countries, creating new avenues for Pakistani talent.
The ambassador reaffirmed Berlin’s commitment to deepening cooperation and supporting Pakistan’s development in key sectors.
