BANNU – A militant reportedly linked to Indian-backed Khwarij network was killed when an improvised explosive device (IED) he was attempting to plant detonated prematurely in Bannu District.
ISPR said the individual was part of an effort to target civilians, under terror group’s increasing reliance on soft targets as sustained operations by Pakistan’s Security Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies continue to restrict their movement and capabilities.
Officials report that heightened counterterrorism pressure significantly weakened network, leading to repeated operational failures and growing signs of disorganization within its ranks.
After this blast, security forces immediately sealed off the area and initiated sanitization operation to ensure no additional militants or explosive devices remained. The operation is ongoing and forms part of the broader national counterterrorism framework.
Authorities reaffirmed that counterterror campaign under “Azm-e-Istehkam”, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, will continue at full pace. Security officials emphasize that dismantling foreign-linked militant structures and preventing attempts to destabilize the region remain top national priorities.
