While Sri Lanka’s national head coach Mickey Arthur is preparing for the commentary stint in the LPL, the other foreign coaching staff members have continued working with the non-LPL South African-bound players in Colombo.
“I am looking after our remaining Test squad players leading into the South Africa Test series here (Colombo)”, Shane McDermott, the fielding coach, speaking exclusively over the telephone, said. The players are busy training at the Khettarama.
“Yes, bowling coach (David Saker) and batting coach (Grant Flower) are with me”. The 22-probables trained at the Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy before the LPL players dispersed and left for Hambantota and the others arrived in Colombo.
Impressed The fielding coach is highly impressed with the performance of the training squad members.
“They are outstanding. Their attitudes have been awesome. It was great to be back together as a group and we can’t wait to go to South Africa”, he concluded. McDermott signed off.
The 22-players had not been “officially” selected by the national selectors as their term ended in August. However, the same players are likely to travel to South Africa assuming none is injured or sick before that.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will be obtaining the foreign ministry approval for their travel.
