Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir will visit Iran on Monday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Sunday.
According to a statement issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Baghaei said the visit was part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
Pakistan has been playing a mediating role in diplomatic efforts between Iran and the United States as both sides seek to end their ongoing conflict.
Munir’s planned visit follows a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Saturday. During the call, the two officials discussed regional developments and security matters, Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported.
The visit comes as Pakistan continues diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the region, particularly amid the US-Iran conflict and the ongoing dispute surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. Pakistan has repeatedly called for dialogue and a peaceful settlement to the crisis, while maintaining contacts with both sides.
Araghchi has also held discussions with Pakistani officials in recent weeks on developments related to the conflict, security concerns and efforts to secure a ceasefire.
