ISLAMABAD – The Ministry of Defence has issued a notification confirming the appointment of Field Marshal Asim Munir as the Pakistan’s first chief of defence forces.
This follows the approval from President Asif Ali Zardari on the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recommendation.
The official notification states that Field Marshal Asim Munir’s tenure as chief of defence forces will last for five years.
“In exercise of powers conferred by Article 243 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973 read with Section 8A of Pakistan Army Act 1952, the President on the advise of the Prime Minister is pleased to appoint Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ as the Chief of the Army Staff concurrently the Chief of the Defence Forces for a tenure of five (05) years,” read the notification.
Additionally, the Ministry of Defence has also issued a notification extending the term of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu for another two years as the head of the Pakistan Air Force.
