Federal Minister Attaullah Tarar urges fact-checking forum to curb CPEC misinformation

Atta Tarar rejects Indian narrative, reaffirms Pakistan’s resolve against terrorism

ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar called for the creation of a specialized fact-checking platform to tackle misinformation, particularly concerning the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Tarar highlighted that false narratives and misleading information pose significant challenges and can distort public perception of major national development projects.

He was addressing the 9th CPEC Media Forum in Islamabad on Wednesday.

He emphasized that a reliable fact-checking system is crucial to promote accurate reporting and informed public understanding.

The minister described CPEC as a transformative initiative driving Pakistan’s economic growth, noting that several development projects have been completed or are underway under its framework. He added that the launch of CPEC 2.0 marks a pivotal step toward strengthening economic progress and enhancing regional connectivity.

Reiterating the historic and trust-based ties between Pakistan and China, Tarar referred to the two countries as “iron brothers,” stressing that the bilateral relationship is strong and effective at all levels.

On the media front, the minister observed that digital platforms now play a vital role in shaping public opinion and narratives, particularly in regional affairs. He highlighted the government’s efforts to modernize communications through Pakistan’s first Digital Communication Department and the launch of Digital Pakistan Television, aimed at projecting Pakistan’s perspective globally.

Tarar also noted growing cultural engagement between Pakistan and China, pointing out that increasing interest in learning each other’s languages is fostering stronger people-to-people connections between the two nations.
