The family of a suspected robber, who was reportedly killed by police in an encounter in New Karachi more than a week ago, has termed the encounter fake. The suspect, Sahil, was killed and his companion, Nadeem, wounded in an alleged encounter with police in the Khawaja Ajmer Nagri area on January 20.

According to the deceased suspect’s brother Naveed, Sahil had gone to have breakfast at a hotel, from where he was apprehended by police. “Police shot my brother dead for not giving a bribe. My brother was critically wounded and passed away at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Sahil used to work at our dry-cleaning shop, and there were no cases against him,” the brother said.He added that the slain man was a drug addict but not a criminal.

He said that police took Sahil into custody from the Surjani Town area, and he had no connection with Nadeem.
