Faisalabad University student ‘raped at gunpoint’ inside van; two drivers arrested

Faisalabad University Student Raped At Gunpoint Inside Van Two Drivers Arrested

FAISALABAD – Another disturbing incident of violence against women reported as a BSc student at a private university in Faisalabad was allegedly sexually assaulted by a university van driver in the campus parking area.

The victim reported that the driver, identified as Adnan, threatened her with a handgun before committing sexual assault inside the van. The horrifying incident sent shockwaves across the community, raising serious concerns about the safety of women on university campuses.

Police detained two van drivers, Adnan and Owais, on charges of rape and blackmail. Investigators said the suspects tricked the student into giving them her mobile phone and later got access to her private picture and threatened to leak them online.

In a further act of exploitation, Adnan reportedly extorted gold and other valuables from the victim.

Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing. Experts warn that incidents like these underscore the urgent need for stronger measures to protect women, particularly in educational institutions, amid a worrying rise in gender-based violence nationwide.

The university administration has yet to release an official statement, while public outrage continues to grow.

In 2025, the South Asian nation continues to face serious gender-based violence crisis, with scores of rape and related cases reported. The actual figures are likely higher due to underreporting caused by social stigma and systemic barriers.

Conviction rates for rape remain alarmingly low, showig weaknesses in investigation, prosecution, and justice delivery. Provinces like Punjab and regions including Islamabad report some of the highest numbers, while incidents in institutional settings, such as universities, underline ongoing vulnerabilities for women.
