Dr Jameel Jalibi Award winners announced

The organizers of the Dr. Jameel Jalibi Award un-veiled the recipients of the prestigious accolade for the finest books of 2022 during a press conference held at the Lahore Press Club on Saturday. Key figures present at the event included Dr Khawar Jameel, the son of the late Jameel Jalibi; Dr M. Kamran, Director of the Institute of Urdu Language and Literature at Punjab University; DrZiaul Hassan, Chairman of the Jameel Jalibi Chair at Punjab Uni-versity; anchor Abdul Basit Khan; and Dr Muham-mad Naeem, Secretary of the Dr Jameel Jalibi Award.

During the press briefing, Ziaul Hasan underscored the role of literary endeavors in fostering peace and understanding within the nation.

Dr. Khawar Jameel, in his address, elucidated on his father’s lifelong commitment to the service of Urdu language and literature. He highlighted that Jameel Jalibi had dedicated his life to valuable contributions to research, history, literary criticism, translation and children’s literature.

In the announcement of the award recipients, Dr. Muhammad Kamran conveyed that, as per the unanimous decision of the jury, the following books stood out among the entries for the competition in 2022:

1. “Jacques Derrida” by Asas Philosophy by Khurram Shahzad (Dr. Jameel Jalibi Award for Research)

2. “Selected Poems of South Asia” by Yasmeen Hameed (Dr. Jameel Jalibi Award for Transla-tion)

3. “Jangal Kahani” by Tasneem Jaffrey (Dr. Jameel Jalibi Award for Children’s Literature) These works were deemed exceptional and were recognized for their outstanding contributions in their respective categories, he concluded.
