ISLAMABAD – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday expressed grief over the deaths of 10 mountaineers, including renowned Nepalese climber Nirmal Purja, in an avalanche on Broad Peak in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Taking to X, previously known as Twitter, Ishaq Dar extended condolences to the families of the victims as well as the governments and people of China, Nepal, Oman, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Dar also mourned the death of Pakistani mountaineer Sohail Sakhi from Hunza, praising his courage and lifelong passion for mountaineering.
The DPM said the determination and pursuit of excellence demonstrated by the climbers who lost their lives represented the true spirit of mountaineering and would continue to inspire future generations.
He also commended the rescue and recovery teams involved in the operation, praising their professionalism and dedication while working under extremely challenging high-altitude conditions.
The deputy prime minister said Pakistan remained committed to ongoing search, rescue and recovery operations, adding that authorities were coordinating closely with the diplomatic missions and relevant organisations involved in the effort.
The Broad Peak tragedy has cast a shadow over the international mountaineering community, with climbers from several countries among those affected.
The DPM also prayed for eternal peace for those who lost their lives and expressed solidarity with their families during the difficult period.
