GLASGOW – Pakistan’s star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem secured a place in the men’s javelin throw final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after finishing seventh in the qualification round with a best effort of 78.63 metres.
None of the competitors reached the automatic qualifying mark of 84 metres during the three-attempt qualification round. As a result, the 12 best performers advanced to the final based on their highest recorded throws.
Sri Lanka’s Ramesh Tharanga led the qualification standings with a throw of 82.84 metres, followed by Grenada’s Anderson Peters, who registered 81.29 metres, and South Africa’s Douw Smit with 80.64 metres.
England’s Ben East finished fourth after throwing 80.38 metres, while India’s Neeraj Chopra claimed fifth place with 79.61 metres. Australia’s MacEntyre placed sixth with 78.91 metres, narrowly ahead of Arshad.
Pakistan’s Yasir Sultan missed out on a place in the final after finishing 14th with a best throw of 74.36 metres.
Arshad will enter the final as the defending Commonwealth Games champion. At the 2022 edition, he produced a historic throw of 90.18 metres to win the gold medal, setting new Commonwealth Games and Pakistan national records.
The achievement also made him the first South Asian athlete to breach the 90-metre barrier in the men’s javelin throw.
