CS formulates measures against anticipated heatwave

Sindh Chief Secretary Syed AsifHyder Shah chaired a crucial meeting on Wednesday to formulate proactive measures against an anticipated heatwave, ensuring comprehensive preparations across the province. Attendees included the secretaries of energy and rehabilitation, Karachi commissioner, and the director general of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). During the session, the PDMA DG briefed participants on the issued alert to relevant organizations regarding the looming heatwave. Discussions centered on preventive measures and plans, with each divisional commissioner reporting on localized strategies. They highlighted the establishment of heatwave centers in their areas, ensuring resource availability, and coordinating with local authorities for swift assistance during the crisis.

Across Sindh, measures include the setup of 124 heatwave camps and first aid centers in Karachi, 200 in Hyderabad, 228 in Sukkur, 60 in Larkana, 85 in Mirpurkhas, and 48 in ShaheedBenazirabad. These facilities are equipped with essential medical supplies, hydration stations, and cooling areas to provide immediate relief and medical aid. Syed AsifHyder Shah stressed the importance of robust infrastructure to mitigate heatwave impacts, directing the establishment of prevention centers in all provincial hospitals. He mandated commissioners and deputy commissioners to set up heatwave camps, offering hydration, shaded areas, and medical support. Special measures were ordered for crowded markets, ensuring temporary shades to shield vendors and shoppers from direct sunlight. Additionally, Rescue 1122 services were placed on high alert, and the energy secretary tasked with ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply from K-Electric, Hesco, and Sepco. A comprehensive media campaign will soon launch across television, radio, social media, and print, focusing on heatwave awareness, prevention tips.
