WASHINGTON – Iranian-American Congresswoman Yasmin Ansari has sharply criticized former US President Donald Trump over his recent statement suggesting the evacuation of Tehran, calling it a “cruel and horrific” proposal that endangers innocent lives.
Ansari, who made history last year as the second Iranian-American elected to the US House of Representatives, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to denounce Trump’s rhetoric. “Tehran is a major city with nearly 10 million people. The Iranian people deserve freedom — but killing innocent civilians, mass bloodshed, or another endless war is not the answer,” she wrote.
Her comments come amid growing international concern over Trump’s increasingly aggressive stance toward Iran. His remarks, interpreted by many as a veiled threat of military action, have raised fears of renewed conflict in the Middle East.
The political analysts warned that Trump’s call to evacuate Tehran could escalate already heightened tensions between the US and Iran, particularly at a time when regional stability remains fragile. Israel and Iran both are trading missiles and drones. Israel started the war by attacking Iran first in pretext of a matter related to nuclear weapons.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump had issued warning to residents of Tehran, urging everyone to evacuate the city as Iran and Israel continue to strike each other on firth day of the conflict.
“Iran should have signed the ‘deal’ I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social media platform.
Trump has reportedly departed from Canada, leaving the Group of Seven summit early, due to escalation in the Middle East.
Iranian media has reported explosions and heavy air defence fire in the capital city of Tehran early on Tuesday. Reports also added that air defences have been activated also in Natanz, which houses key nuclear installations.
On the other hand, air raid sirens were heard in Tel Aviv after midnight and an explosion was reported as Iranian missiles targeted Israel again.
Iran has reported 224 deaths, mostly civilians, in five days, while Israel said 24 civilians had been killed.
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said nearly 3,000 Israelis had been evacuated to safe places due to damage from Iranian strikes.
Meanwhile, the Chinese embassy in Israel has urged Chinese citizens to return home or leave the country via land border crossings as soon as possible due to deteriorating security situation in the region.
“At present, the Israeli-Iranian conflict continues to escalate, with civilian facilities damaged and civilian casualties increasing, making the security situation even more severe,” the embassy warned in a notice shared on WeChat on Tuesday.
The Chinese citizens have been asked to leave via the land crossing towards Jordan.
