PAKISTAN on Wednesday conducted a successful flight test of the Ababeel weapon system. According to the ISPR statement, the latest test of the ballistic missile system was aimed at re-validating various designs, technical parameters and performance evaluation of different sub-systems.

The test signifies a proactive step towards maintaining a strategic balance in an increasingly volatile region. It is important to underscore that deterrence is not a static phenomenon but an ever-evolving concept that requires constant reassessment and adaptation to emerging threats. Pakistan’s approach to deterrence is fundamentally rooted in its commitment to regional stability and peace. The country has consistently advocated for conflict resolution through dialogue and diplomatic channels. However, the bolstering of its defence capabilities remains crucial in ensuring a secure and stable environment, thereby deterring any potential threat to its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The geopolitical landscape in South Asia has been marked by ongoing tension and a delicate balance of power, particularly between Pakistan and India. In this context, India’s high-value defence deals with various major capitals have emphasized the need for Pakistan to uphold its minimum deterrence policy. India’s substantial defence procurements, including the acquisition of sophisticated military hardware and advanced weaponry from leading global powers, have created a compelling environment for Pakistan to ensure its defence capabilities remain robust and capable of deterring potential aggression. It is a matter of satisfaction that while recognizing the necessity to fortify its defence infrastructure, Pakistan has been making significant strides in indigenous defence production. Notably, the initiation of the production of the advanced JF-17 Thunder Block 3 fighter jets stands as a testament to Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing its indigenous defence capabilities. Equipped with an improved radar system, the JF-17 Thunder Block 3 represents a substantial leap forward in Pakistan’s aerial warfare capabilities, placing it in direct competition with India’s Rafael aircraft. This remarkable achievement underscores Pakistan’s growing expertise in advanced technological development within the defence sector. It not only reinforces the country’s self-reliance but also showcases its ability to compete on a global scale.
