Burgenstock Hosts First Us Iran Talks After Islamabad Mou Signing

The United States and Iran are scheduled to hold crucial talks in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, on Sunday in what marks their first direct engagement since the electronic signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The landmark agreement was signed on June 17 by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, with both sides aiming to ease tensions and promote stability across the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, has arrived in Switzerland to take part in the high-level negotiations being held under the framework of the Islamabad MoU.

Earlier, US Vice President JD Vance also landed in Switzerland ahead of what he described as several days of peace negotiations with Iranian representatives. According to a spokesperson, Vance and his wife touched down at Emmen Air Base at 5:59 am local time (0359 GMT).

On the Iranian side, a senior delegation reached Zurich late Saturday in preparation for both diplomatic and technical discussions with US officials in Bürgenstock, according to IRNA.

The Iranian delegation is being led by Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, accompanied by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and senior representatives from the country’s major economic and security institutions.

Other members attending the talks include Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati, National Iranian Oil Company chief Hamid Bovard, along with deputy foreign ministers Esmaeil Baqaei and Kazem Gharibabadi.
