Brother Sister Drown To Death In Water Filled Pit In Islamabads Jj Society

ISLAMABAD — A heartbreaking incident reported from Islamabad’s JJ Society, where a brother and his young sister drowned to death after falling into pit, leaving locals in shock.

The victims were identified as 9-year-old Muhammad and his 7-year-old sister, Muayma. The siblings reportedly entered or accidentally fell into the water-filled pit and drowned. Their bodies were later shifted to a private hospital.

The incident falls within the jurisdiction of Phulgran Police Station, where the SHO has launched the required legal and procedural formalities.

It also raised serious questions about the circumstances surrounding the pit and whether adequate safety measures were in place to prevent children from approaching it.

Police have yet to establish who owns the site, how the children gained access to the pit, why it was filled with water and whether any barriers or warnings had been installed around the area.

The deaths come as Islamabad and Rawalpindi have experienced rainfall in recent days, raising concerns over the dangers posed by open or water-filled pits during wet weather. Authorities are expected to determine the exact circumstances as the investigation and legal proceedings continue.

The deaths of the two siblings have cast a pall of grief over the community, while questions about site safety remain unanswered.

Rain season continues in Pakistan and at least 161 people died across Pakistan this monsoon season, as per National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) stats.

KP recorded highest number of fatalities with 67 deaths, followed by Punjab with 54. Sindh reported 16 deaths, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 13, Balochistan 8, Islamabad 2, and Gilgit-Baltistan 1. The incidents include drownings, flash floods, house and building collapses, and other rain-related accidents. Authorities have also reported 483 injuries during the ongoing monsoon season.

The 161 fatalities are monsoon-season figure, covering casualties recorded since June 26, rather than the final rain-related death toll for the entire 2026 calendar year.
