BRICS Backs Measures to Keep Global Energy, Trade Flows Moving

Brics Backs Measures To Keep Global Energy Trade Flows Moving

BRICS countries have agreed to cooperate to safeguard global energy supplies and ensure uninterrupted trade and supply chains amid escalating instability in West Asia, according to media reports.

Sudhakar Dalela, Secretary for Economic Relations at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, said energy security was among the issues discussed by BRICS leaders during their summit in New Delhi.

Speaking at a press conference, he said the grouping already maintains a dedicated energy cooperation mechanism, while the current geopolitical situation has also prompted discussions on protecting energy supplies.

The discussions came as international oil prices briefly climbed above $108 a barrel during the week amid concerns over potential shipping disruptions and supply constraints in the region.

Dalela said BRICS members had stressed the need for collective efforts to keep global trade, supply chains and energy flows operating smoothly in line with international law.
