QUETTA – Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Rozi Khan Barrech on Monday took suo motu notice of the brutal murder of a man and a woman in Degari in the name of honour after they got married.

Chief Justice Barrech summoned Balochistan additional chief secretary for home and the inspector general of police to appear before the court on July 22 to explain the progress of the investigation and measures taken so far.

Simultaneously, a judicial magistrate in Quetta ordered the exhumation of the woman’s grave for further investigation. The process is being carried out under the supervision of the magistrate as per court directives.

The incident took place in Sanjadi Degari, where a couple was shot dead over honour. The video of the killing surfaced online days later which sparked the public outrage and prompted the government action.

The police so far arrested 13 suspects, and a First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the Hanna Urak police station.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, who had earlier taken notice of the incident, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to justice.

“The operation is underway, and all those involved will be brought to justice. The state stands with the oppressed,” said the CM.

Earlier, the police registered an FIR and  arrested 20 suspects including the main accused.

Quetta police have registered the case under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code and relevant clauses of the Anti-Terrorism Act. The FIR was lodged at Hanna Urak Police Station on the complaint of SHO Naveed Akhtar.

According to the complaint, a video surfaced online showing a woman and a man being shot dead. The police reached the Sanjadi Degari Margat area with a team and learned through inquiry that the incident occurred three days before Eid-ul-Adha. The victims were identified as Bano Bibi and Ehsanullah, who were allegedly killed by gunfire.

The complainant further stated that before the killings, both the man and the woman were taken to Sardar Sher Baz Khan, who allegedly declared them guilty of ‘Karo Kari’ (honour-based crime) and ordered their execution.

The suspects involved in the shooting reportedly include Shah Wazir, Jalal, Tikri Munir, Bakhtiar, Malik Amir and Ajab Khan. The entire incident was filmed and uploaded on social media, spreading fear and panic among the public.
