All Pakistan Traders’ President expresses solidarity with tenants in Bengali Property shops
President of the All Pakistan Traders’ Union Ajmal Baloch has appealed to the Cabinet Division of Pakistan to reconsider its decision of expelling the shopkeepers from the Bengali Market of the Aabpara Market and ‘auctioning the rent’ of these properties—4 shops which are extended into 9—in the Aabpara Market. He appealed to the Cabinet Division to either allot these shops to these shopkeepers or continue the current rental system as these shopkeepers have been running their businesses in these shops for over 50 years.
The Cabinet Division’s Abandoned Properties Organization (APO) has sealed these shops on the ground that these shops belonged to the Bengali traders who in 1971 handed over or sold these shops to these shopkeepers before leaving for Bangladesh against nominal price. However according to the APO, that was not a legal procedure and the shopkeepers operating their businesses in those Bengali properties for last 50 years had no right to continue and they must quit.
