LONDON – Pakistan star batter Babar Azam achieved a major milestone during the Test against England, becoming the second Pakistani captain to score 7,000 Test runs.
Babar joined former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq in reaching the landmark, with Misbah previously achieving the feat during his captaincy.
Babar played a crucial role in Pakistan’s resistance against England, forming an important 89-run fourth-wicket partnership with captain Shan Masood. He completed his half-century off 76 balls.
Earlier, Shan Masood and Azan Awais also helped steady Pakistan’s innings with a 125-run partnership, the first century partnership for Pakistan in the series.
Despite facing difficulties in the series, Pakistan showed greater resistance during the innings. Shan Masood was dismissed for 95, falling just five runs short of a century.
Babar was initially caught near the boundary off Jofra Archer. However, the fielding incident was reviewed after it emerged that the fielder’s foot had touched the boundary sponge, resulting in six runs being awarded to Babar.
The batter could add only one more run after the incident before he was caught behind off Josh Tongue for 76.
Babar’s achievement adds another significant milestone to his international career and highlights his contribution to Pakistan cricket, particularly during his time as captain.
His performance against England also provided Pakistan with valuable resistance in a difficult Test series, although the team continued to face pressure from the hosts.
