Karachi’s administrative officials have intensified efforts to curb price violations across the city. Over the past 13 days alone, authorities inspected a staggering 545 locations, uncovering discrepancies and imposing penalties where necessary. The crackdown, aimed at ensuring fair pricing for consumers, has yielded significant results.
A total of 164 businesses were found guilty of overcharging customers, resulting in fines exceeding Rs 15 million. The penalties were levied as part of an ongoing initiative to uphold government-set price standards and protect consumers from exploitation. Breaking down the enforcement efforts by district, authorities reported that southern Karachi saw fines amounting to Rs 5.25 million across 48 establishments.
Meanwhile, eastern districts faced penalties totaling Rs 1.47 million across 16 outlets. In the western districts, fines exceeded Rs 80,000 across 22 businesses, while central areas witnessed penalties surpassing Rs 429,000 across 37 locations.
Additionally, Malir incurred fines of over Rs 970,000 across 17 businesses, while Korangi faced penalties exceeding Rs 225,000 across 14 establishments. Kemari district rounded off the enforcement efforts with fines totaling over Rs 88,000 across 10 businesses.
This robust action against price violations underscores the commitment of Karachi’s administration to uphold consumer rights and ensure adherence to official pricing guidelines.
