ISLAMABAD – The federal cabinet has approved the deployment of three companies of the Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi for six months under Article 245 of the Constitution.
The approval was granted following a request from the Punjab Home Department, with a notification subsequently issued regarding the deployment.
Under the decision, the Pakistan Army will assist the district administration in maintaining law and order across Rawalpindi.
Security arrangements at sensitive locations and key roads will also be strengthened as part of the deployment. The troops will support the district administration in dealing with any untoward situation and help maintain a secure environment in the city.
The deployment has been authorized specifically under Article 245 of the Constitution.
The Ministry of Interior has issued a notification in this regard.
What the Notification Says
“Pursuant to the request made by the Home Department, Government of Punjab, Lahore vide letter No.S0(IS-II)3-15/2026(Security) dated 22-07-2026, the Federal Government, in exercise of the powers conferred under Article 245 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, is pleased to authorize deployment of 3x companies of Pakistan Army for sensitive security duties in Rawalpindi to avoid any undesirable situation as well as to respond effectively in any unforeseen situation as per requirement of the district administration for a period of six months with immediate effect”, read the notification.
